Pacquiao and Social Media

Social media has been making a huge impact on different aspects of the world. And one of them is sports. A bunch of websites and blogs have thrived on discussing and tackling about different sports and athletes concerned. As you can tell, a lot of people have a passion for sports. And to be able to interact with other sports enthusiasts, they turn to different kinds of social media. Boxing, for example, is a hot topic among sports fans, especially when Manny Pacquiao is involved.

Manny Pacquiao has been knocking out his opponents not only in the ring, but also in social media. His name has been significantly been mentioned in many forms of social media, whether on Facebook or Twitter. The amount of interaction of people on social media is phenomenal. One of the main social media platforms is Twitter. Before, news or instant information was never really attainable immediately. But now, we are surrounded with news from press conferences, interviews, and the actual fights themselves that are considered valuable to boxing fans.

People use social media in order to share their points of view or vent out their frustrations with boxing matches and other stuff related to the sport, in this case boxing. For people who are unable to watch top-prized fights like Manny Pacquiao’s, they can just log on to Twitter and witness the live updating tweets of fellow fans to keep informed with what’s happening every round.

Even before he steps into the ring, Manny Pacquiao becomes a hot trending topic. Not mentioning the fact, that after he wins a fight, he is most likely to be at the top of Twitter’s trending topics for the next two days. Another proof of Pacquiao’s high praise in social media is that in every fight of his, his name are sure keywords in Google searches. In each boxing match, thousands of tweets would include several hashtags such as #Pacman or #Pacquiao that would prove he is widely mentioned across the world and how social media is connecting these fans to one another.

Pacman also became an endorser of Nike, which pretty much put him in a different stratosphere from other boxers. With his commercials and other ad campaigns, he uses social media platforms to promote himself or the Nike brand.

There isn't an exact figure of how many tweets were posted that involved Manny Pacquiao, but for his name to become a trending topic, millions of Twitter users must have talked about him through a concerted effort. The combination of tweets before, during and after his fights amassed to putting his name as a trending topic. Not mentioning the other people posting status messages on Facebook. As of this time, Pacquiao's official Facebook page has 2,222,604 fans while his verified Twitter account has 304,863 followers.

Social media is a great way for athletes, like Manny Pacquiao, to interact with their fan base on a personal standpoint, which is something many generations of sports lovers have been unable to attain until now. The only downside of being sucked in the world of social media is that some athletes tend to lose privacy and have to pay the price for the fact that they can be scrutinized by possibly everyone on the world wide web about every aspect of their public life.
